Chelsea would be wise to give youngster game time in midst of contract offer

As we are well aware by now, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been left frustrated with a lack of signings during the January transfer window.

To top that off they also lost one of their hottest young academy products Tariq Lamptey, who joined Brighton on deadline day.

Lamptey’s contract was running low and he would have been a free agent this summer. Chelsea had a new offer on the table, but he decided to go elsewhere in search of first team football.

This is a trend we are seeing quite a lot at Chelsea, young talents not seeing a clear path into the first team or seeing the quality ahead of them, and deciding to go elsewhere.

Chelsea must not let this happen with another quality prospect Faustino Anjorin, who’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2021 (Transfermarkt).

Chelsea opened talks with Anjorin to sign a new contract back in November 2019, as reported by The Metro.

Yet since then, we have not had any confirmation of a new deal, or any updates how these talks are progressing.

This is why it will be wise for Lampard to get him into the first team now. Not only for the new contract, but because he will improve Lampard’s options and give him that attacking threat that he needs.

Anjorin has the ability to open up defences and score goals which is exactly what Lampard lacks, as I’ve written about in more detail over at Talk Chelsea.
