Chelsea urged to “take a serious look” at Newcastle player to strengthen first team

We wrote yesterday about Garth Crooks’ team of the week because Antonio Rudiger was included in the BBC pundit’s chosen XI this week.

It’s well deserved, given he scored twice and really saved Chelsea in their tough game against Leicester. But also in that column was some free wisdom from Crooks on who the Blues should sign to replace the struggling Kepa Arrizabalaga.

He points out we’ve gone from having two “world class” keepers in Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois to having Kepa and Willy Caballero, who “look like they’ve only recently been introduced to the game”.

He recommends the Blues “take a serious look at Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka,” the stopper who has made a very positive impact for the Magpies since arriving in January two years ago.

As a cheap option ready to compete with Kepa, we could do a lot worse. On the other hand, perhaps we should be aiming a little higher? If we want to get back to the top, we’ll need a seriously top keeper.
