Chelsea to ‘still consider’ Nathan Ake move as claims £40 million buyback clause still in place

One of Chelsea’s transfer saga’s of last month was the ‘will they, wont they’ move for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

The former Chelsea man was sold to The Cherries in 2017 with a widely reported £40 million buyback clause.

However, most media outlets were reporting last month that this clause would only be an option until the end of January.

However, a report emerging via Duncan Wright of The Sun suggests that Chelsea will still be able to use said buyback clause in the summer, should they wish to.

Not only do they have this option still, The Telegraph reporter Matt Law believes that Chelsea will ‘still consider’ signing Ake in the summer, but it would mean ousting a current centre back.

Chelsea decided against signing Ake last month as Frank Lampard wanted to assess his current options. He may look to revisit it this summer after seeing his own centre backs for a full season.
