One of the young players really getting football fans across Europe excited right now is Rayan Cherki.
The 16 year old is earning a trickle of league appearances, but he’s really making a splash in the Coupe de France.
His highlights in that competition have everyone talking about him, and on SportWitness they translated claims in Italy that Chelsea were very close to bringing in the kid as a 12 year old.
Apparently they trialled the youngster as a 12 year old, but for whatever reason we didn’t end up bringing him in. We may very well be regretting that decision quite severely soon – can’t you just imagine him being transferred for £100m in a few years?
Either way, the club does a fantastic job recruiting youngsters so you can’t really complain. For all we know they wanted him and tried to sign him and he decided against it, or Lyon just made him an even better offer.
