Cesar Azpilicueta explains what John Terry did as a captain

Cesar Azpilicueta is a good captain, leading by example and showing the heart and passion that is vital to lead a team and connect with the fans.

He learned from the best, as John Terry was the man with the armband when Azpi arrived. In an exclusive interview on the Chelsea website, the full back explained how the former skipper had done in the role.

“The first day I arrived he was ready to help me if I needed anything. I could see every day in training sessions his mentality, his way of competing,” the Basque said.

“When I arrived Chelsea had just won the Champions League and all the trophies before that, but he still had this ambition and this hunger,” he continued.

The influence JT had on those around him is clear, and one thing that is always mentioned is the care he took to make new signings feel integrated and important from the moment they arrived.

It’s a vital part of keeping the dressing room a tight-knight group, something which has huge benefits on and off the pitch. Let’s hope Azpi is passing on that trait to the next generation.
