4 Frank Lampard gambles that didn’t pay off against Leicester

Frank Lampard surprised everyone with the teamsheet he handed in for today’s game against Leicester, and of all the big calls, it’s hard to name one that went right.

Starting from the back with the decision to play Willy Caballero ahead of Kepa, one feels that all 4 of Lampard’s gambles went wrong.

Willy made a mistake which almost directly lead to a goal, and playing a 38 year old is not a promising path to go down anyway.

Then in midfield, the mysterious decision to leave out Mateo Kovacic also felt like a wrong step. The team improved with him on the pitch.

Up front, the gamble on playing a half fit Tammy Abraham didn’t pay off either, as he looked very limited for the whole game. Equally, playing Pedro after such a long period out was hardly a big success.

Overall, Lampard’s decisions were not smart in this team – but we still walked away with a point after a tricky away game at the Foxes.
