“I want to see a bit more” – Lampard still not happy with Batshuayi despite goal

Chelsea played a rotated team in all departments against Hull in the FA Cup tonight, and one of those to benefit from the changes Frank Lampard made was Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgium striker started and scored, but his performance was hardly outstanding, and he didn’t make much of an impression in persuading Frank Lampard he can be an option long term.

Lampard spoke to the media after the game, and they asked him about how he felt his striker played in the game and how he was been this season overall.

Football.London had the full quotes from the Chelsea boss on Batshuayi and how he thinks the Belgian is getting on:

“We are at that level of football which is quite demanding and everyone judges strikers on goals and I think Michy has that in him. So I want to see a bit more,” Lampard concluded.

You’ll struggle to find a Chelsea fan who disagrees. We’ve all seen flashes of what the former Marseille man can do, but in no point in his time at the club has he looked like putting it all together for a solid run.

It’s true he’s not been given an extended series of games in the team – but having played under several managers, there’s a reason for that. None of them have been impressed enough by what they’ve seen in training and in his occasional starts to give him the starting spot, and it doesn’t sound like Lampard is about to break that mould.
