Vissel Kobe join chase for ageing Chelsea winger

Pedro Rodriguez may no longer be a starter for Chelsea, but there’s still plenty of interest in the Spanish winger from abroad.

Now 32, his time in the spotlight at Stamford Bridge is over, and his spell at the top level of football in Europe may be ending too. His contract at Stamford Bridge is up in the summer, and the interest in his services seems to be mainly from clubs outside the continent.

Inter Miami, the MLS team owned by David Beckham, have been suggested for some time as a possible destination, while now Goal.com are adding Vissel Kobe in Japan as a contender. The J League team have signed plenty of the former Barcelona man’s countrymen in recent seasons.

The spurious rumours that he would be going back to the Camp Nou, meanwhile, seem to have faded into the background.

He played against Norwich this weekend, without much success. Father Time is closing in, and the serial winner’s future in the top 5 leagues looks very much in doubt.
