Striker “so close” to transfer with Inter sporting director in London to complete outgoing deal

After a couple of years sterling service as Chelsea’s backup striker, Olivier Giroud is off to Inter, with everything but the photos and the paperwork agreed.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has just posted that Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio is in London to complete the €5m move, which Romano describes as “so close”, even included a checkered flag to indicate it’s approaching the finish line.

It’s a move we’ve seen coming from some way off, with Giroud not even making it onto the pitch for Frank Lampard’s super rotated teams in the cup.

He’s trained well and been mature about the whole thing, and we kind of owe it to him to let him go, especially with a few million euros on the table.

The question is who is brought in to replace him. Frank Lampard has repeatedly insisted that Giroud will only go if a replacement is secured – does this mean progress has been made on that front?
