Ruben Loftus-Cheek reveals his first football nickname

Players often talk about how hard it is being injured long term. The team and club move on without them, and unable to join in with the actual sport, training alone, they can feel very isolated.

Clubs nowadays do all they can to reduce those feelings, and you can tell from Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s interview today on the official Chelsea website that they’re keeping him involved despite the dreadful Achilles problem that’s ruled him out since last spring.

At one point, he mentions his first nickname in football. Given the famous lack of originality that people inside the game have for nicknames (protip: it’s ALWAYS – first syllable of their surname with a y on the end) you shouldn’t be surprised at all to hear it was…. Cheeky.

Not even because of his personality, as he points out. Just because of his name.

Surely we can do better than that? Even RLC has a better ring to it.
