The one signing Chelsea can still make with just 36 hours of January left

There’s only a day and a half left in this January window, and a month that looked set to be a thrilling one for Chelsea fans has turned into a damp squib.

With no strong rumours in the air at the moment, and so little time left on the clock, it seems very unlikely that any major business will get done now. That’s a real kick in the teeth for fans who wanted to see a big name come in and strengthen Frank Lampard’s flagging squad.

One move that still could be made for sure is Nathan Ake. Why do we think that? Well Chelsea have a buy-back clause in the Bournemouth defender’s contract.

That means that if we really want him, we can just put the money on the table and start talking personal terms with the Dutchman. That takes the entire negotiating stage out of the process, and allows it to be done rapidly.

Whether we’re still interested in our former player or not is another question.
