French transfer news site FootMercato are on the case when it comes to our activity in France, and this window has seen plenty of interest in players based in Ligue 1.
Top of the list is Moussa Dembele, the Lyon striker who we’ve been consistently linked with all month. The declarations from the club’s president Michel Aulas made it seem like the trail had gone cold, but it seems he may have just been raising the price.
According to Footmercato, this week has seen Lyon “prepare” for “new offensives” from clubs to buy the striker – with Chelsea among the interested parties.
The paper points out that our last bid was €40m and was rejected, so anything that comes now would have to be even more impressive than that. That really would be serious business for a January window, but then again we’re in a fairly critical moment right now.
He’s had a goalscoring start to 2020, and that price is only likely to creep higher if we wait until the summer.
