Kante injury very worrying for weakened Chelsea

Frank Lampard’s lineup today had some interesting selections, most of all Ross Barkley in midfield.

The reason the England international was making his first start since October was the absence of N’Golo Kante. The France midfielder was not on the bench either, leading to speculation – later confirmed – that it must be an injury problem.

Without him Frank has been forced to pick a very attacking midfield. Jorginho is playing deeper, but he’s not exactly capable of covering ground like Kante.

Our squad is lacking in that department and this injury really points that out. Lampard said it’s a hamstring injury, in comments picked up by Nizaar Kinsella of Goal.com.

It doesn’t sound too serious, but missing this game alone is serious enough. These injury problems are becoming a serious concern, both for the midfielder and for Chelsea as they look to build for the future.

We can survive this game, but does this make signing another defensive midfielder a priority?
