Lots of Chelsea fans weren’t too happy when they found out that Billy Gilmour wasn’t starting tonight.
The supremely talented young Scot has been a shining light in the youth teams, and stepped up to play in two Carabao Cup ties earlier in the season, as well as making his Premier League debut as a sub.
Frank Lampard decided he wasn’t ready to start this one though, and that was probably sensible given how much of a tough test it ended up being. He came on after 65 minutes however, and made a really good impact in his 25 minutes on the pitch.
Fans on social media were absolutely loving his impact, with one (admittedly overexcited) user saying that Gilmour was “Initesta’ legacy”. That’s going a little too far, but he was very tidy in the middle, and he even pulled off some lovely skills in the final stages, showboating with two opposition players around him.
