The fundamental disagreement between Chelsea and Milan over £30m Piatek deal

Chelsea are on the lookout for a striker, and with just a few days left in the January transfer window they might just be starting to get desperate.

One person they can have – if only they’ll pay £30m for him – is AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek. The Independent‘s Miguel Delaney writes that he’s been offered to the Blues for that sum.

Milan are “insistent” on a full sale of the forward they bought a year ago, while Chelsea would apparently rather try before they buy with a loan until the end of the season. That’s a pretty huge gap to bridge, and it’s quite hard to see the bean-counters at the Bridge stumping up so much for a player whose value is tumbling rapidly.

That’s not to say an agreement can’t be reached of course. The piece makes no claim that Chelsea can’t be persuaded to buy, only that they would prefer a loan.

But as it stands, this deal doesn’t work for either side.
