Frank Lampard happy with Kepa and rules out new goalkeeping coach

Cast your minds back a few weeks, Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was under scrutiny after struggling with form, and rumours began to start about Frank Lampard allegedly being unsure on Kepa, and was looking to bring in a new goalkeeping coach.

As was reported by many outlets at the time including The Daily Mail, Lampard allegedly wanted his former Goalkeeping coach from Derby County, Shay Given, to join him at Chelsea due to as they state, ‘concerns over Kepa’s bad form’.

Well, Lampard has been speaking to the press yesterday and this is a subject that he took questions on.

He immediately squashes the rumours of Given coming to Chelsea, as reported by Goal, he said:

“Shay Given? – no, loved working with him but I am very happy with that I have got now.”

He then went on to talk about Kepa himself, and he seemed very smart in his response, saying he was happy with Kepa’s latest performances at the least.

He said:

“I will always take into consideration the confidence levels of all the players. Goalkeeper a specific position and they are normally very obsessed with clean sheets, sometimes I think overly so because I think they take too much on their shoulders because clean sheets are an absolute collective.

“So I will always hope that he feels confident. It is a balance between confidence and players being on edge knowing that we want them to produce, so he has made good saves recently, vs Brighton. I’m always happy with that because that is what he is there for, that’s his job, making saves to win us points.”

Let’s hope Kepa continues with the good performances he has shown recently and many times last season.
