“Foundations for years to come” – James-CHO combo gets recognition in national press

A year ago, talk of a right hand side for Chelsea made up of Reece James overlapping past Callum Hudson-Odoi would have seemed a few years off at least.

In fact, anyone suggesting it might have been accused of being a Chelsea Youth style fanatic, having pipe dreams of their academy products ruling the top flight.

It just shows how amazingly fast we’ve moving right now that, just a year later, it’s not only a reality, but one that’s being acknowledged in the national press.

The Daily Mail, for have the combination in their “10 things we learned this week” feature.

“Frank Lampard continues to build the foundations of the Chelsea team for potentially years to come,” they wrote.

“In their 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, it was the right side of the team that really impressed as Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi combined to superb effect.

“They came through the academy ranks together and the natural understanding of one another’s game was clear to see as they gave Burnley a real headache throughout,” they concluded.

We’ve already written about how well it worked, and of course we’ve seen glimpses of it before. But we’re now at a really impressive level now, with nationwide recognition pouring in for our young talents.

We always knew they just needed a chance to show the world what they can do. Now they’ve got it, they’re not going to let us down.

Next stop, the front page? We wouldn’t count it out, with a European Championships coming up this summer…
