Dries Mertens to Chelsea is seemingly the only transfer with any legs right now, and there have been a trickle of updates through the day to keep us interested.
The latest wash of whispers indicates that Chelsea are going to make another bid, and it comes from the Telegraph, a moderately good source that has Matt Law on the Chelsea beat.
He Tweeted the following not long ago:
Chelsea to make last-ditch final Mertens bid. If unsuccessful (which is currently the more likely), it could impact Giroud future. Tottenham still interested in Giroud. https://t.co/3pE16Irn6D

As he admits, it’s a huge long shot. Trying to prise him away without serious pushing on his part will be difficult. He’s just a couple of goals short of the Napoli record too – if only they’d kept Carlo Ancelotti in charge a little longer he might already have it and be on his way to Stamford Bridge.
This one is almost dead – but it still lives. Let’s see what they think of this “final” bid. His contract is up in the summer – can we make an offer they can’t refuse?
