Dries Mertens to Chelsea latest – What the top sources are saying

There are just two days left of the January transfer window, and Chelsea still haven’t signed a new striker as we enter the panic buy stage.

Napoli striker Dries Mertens is the latest player to be heavily linked to joining Chelsea this window. However, some of the top sources are in disagreement to how possible this move is, if even possible at all.

Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira claims that Mertens will stay at Napoli until the summer, and that there have not even been any talks with Chelsea regarding the move. He even suggests that it is Inter who have offered him a contract for the summer.

Another Italian reporter Alfredo Pedulla has had mixed results with his reporting in the past, but he does seem to have close links with Napoli and he is in agreement with Schira.

Two other strong Italian sources seem to believe that there are at least talks happening between Chelsea and Napoli over Mertens joining this window.

Gianluca Di Marzio’s latest report says that the deal is in balance, but Napoli do not wish to sell ‘at the moment.’

Whilst his Sky Italia colleague Fabrizio Romano also agrees that Napoli are not keen on selling Mertens right now.

Meanwhile in the UK, both Matt Law of The Telegraph, and Nizaar Kinsella of Goal have reported that Chelsea have made a move for Mertens, but have not provided any further information as of yet.
