Chelsea waiting to offload Christensen before sealing new centre back

Last night was a busy old time for transfer rumours related to Chelsea, they were coming in thick and fast.

One report in particular from The Sun‘s Senior Football Reporter Duncan Wright, seems to have some substance to it.

Wright claims that Chelsea still want to exercise their £40 million buyback clause on Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake – a clause that they cleverly inserted in the deal to sell him to the south coast side.

But they will not use this option until they offload current defender Andreas Christensen from the clubs wage bill.

Wright says that the Danish international has become ‘surplus to requirements’ under Frank Lampard and AC Milan hold an interest in signing him during this window.

Ake is also out injured for two more weeks, so Chelsea needn’t be in any rush to bring him back to the club. It’s a good situation for them to be in for once, having time to negotiate Christensen’s potential exit.
