Chelsea ready to send second youth team graduate out on 18 month Championship loan

Chelsea have already sent Marc Guehi out on an 18 month loan this January, and another talented academy product could be joining him.

The Daily Mail report that Tariq Uwakwe is a target for Derby and Hull, as well as Swansea, the team his peer Marc joined. After playing regularly in the Premier League 2 reserve league this season, it’s pretty clear that it’s time for a step up.

Both Tariq and Marc have graduated from our very successful academy and are too good and too old for youth team football now. They’ve reached the vital point where they need senior games, and the Championship is our favourite place to send players at that stage.

Given there’s plenty of interest in him, hopefully we’ll find a team that will play him regularly out there somewhere. It’s proved a rich proving ground for players like Tammy Abraham and Reece James. These two can hopefully be the next generation of the loan army effort.
