Chelsea must act in January to find Kante backup after latest muscle injury

N’Golo Kante was a surprise omission for Chelsea for today’s game against Burnley, not even appearing on the bench for Frank Lampard’s selection.

The manger explained before the game that it was down to a hamstring injury that the midfielder had picked up in training the day before.

As he nears 30, Kante is picking up more and more of these issues, and his all-action style is appears to be catching up with him. There is no natural replacement for him in this Chelsea squad, and the entire strategy had to be changed to make up for his absence.

That’s not an ideal situation, and it’s time for the club to act. We’ve accumulated a number of creative midfielders, but have nobody with Kante’s skill-set and style. They need a natural replacement to fill in for him when he’s missing, and to eventually replace him.

There are big names in the Premier League, and cheaper talents abroad. It won’t be an easy task, but long term we have to consider the process of replacing out best player.
