The English transfer deadline slams closed at 11pm this evening, and Chelsea don’t appear to be any close to sealing any new players, despite going to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to get the ban lifted.
The closest linked name at the moment is Dries Mertens, but Italian reports are suggesting this is now unlikely.
So do Chelsea have a plan b?
Well, it isn’t the glamorous name that Chelsea fans would like to hear, but The Blues are being linked to Leicester City striker Islam Slimani.
This is according to TuttoMercatoWeb’s Marco Conterio, who states that Chelsea have joined Inter in showing an interest in signing Slimani this window.
📣 Non solo #Inter. Su Islam Slimani si è inserito il Chelsea #CFC e potrebbe sbloccare così Giroud alla #Lazio. @TuttoMercatoWeb

The Algerian international is currently on loan at Monaco and is actually having a very good season for them.
However, I’m not so sure that he is the answer to Frank Lampard’s attacking reinforcements SOS! Let’s hope they come up with a better plan C instead!
