The Chelsea and Willian contract saga is one that has been going on for months now, and appears to be at a standoff due to the length of contract being offered.
Willian is actually free to discuss a move to another club from now on, and his contract runs out at Chelsea at the end of June 2020, when he will be a free agent.
The contract talks seem no closer to having a conclusion despite both sides of the party expressing a desire to get the contract signed.
However, the latest report from journalist Duncan Castles, suggests that a solution is no closer as the dispute over the length of the contract continues.
Speaking via his Transfer Window Podcast, as cited by The Daily Star, Castles believes that Chelsea ‘envisage losing’ Willian this summer and are making preparations to continue without him in the shape of Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
He said:
“Their priority is on the wing, where they envisage losing Willian at the latest in the summer because they have offered Willian a new contract but only a one-year contract because of his age.
“Willian is understandably arguing that he is better than a one year-contract, a top performer in the Premier League, and there are plenty of other clubs who would like to give me a longer term deal so I’m not going to sign that and Chelsea are preparing for his exit.
“I’m told they are focusing on wingers at present.
“One of those strong options for them is Jadon Sancho.”
