Chelsea “enquire” about £50m defender

Chelsea have been linked with a surprise move for Lewis Dunk of Brighton, according to Football.London.

The website cites a potential fee of £50m for the English defender, showing you the “Harry Maguire” effect on the market in the last couple of years.

Dunk is a very good player, no question. Now vastly experienced at Premier League level, he’s continued developing and looks set to fulfil the potential that’s been talked about for years.

Now the captain of his boyhood club, he shows great leadership and character, as well as the ability to play out from the back; a skillset his new manager Graham Potter is really managing to make the most of.

For all these reasons and more, the Seagulls want to hold on to him, and they know their Premier League survival might come down to clinging on. £50m may seem like a vast amount for an English defender, but it also seems to be likely the minimum they’d accept, given the circumstances.
