Chelsea chase £40m central defender despite Frank’s numerous options

When Sky linked Chelsea with a mystery centre back on their transfer show earlier this week, various names were brought up.

First on the list for many people was Caglar Soyuncu, but that was quickly dismissed. Why would Leicester sell their star centre back when they’re above us in the table?

One of the next names theorised was Issa Diop of West Ham. He fits the bill of being a “young” (23), “centre back” at a (Premier League) “rival”.

The mooted price of £50m isn’t far off what the Sun today quote as the likely price for the defender. They say £40m, but after fees and agents and clauses it could end up being a lot more.

It’s interesting to see us so intensely linked with defenders, given that Antonio Rudiger is back fit, and Frank Lampard seems to really like Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma – with Andreas Christensen also on the bench.
