Chelsea battle Inter for £2m – but the reason reason could be Conte conflict

Olivier Giroud will probably leave Chelsea in this transfer window, and Inter Milan seem to be at the front of the queue.

The Daily Mail report that we’re trying to squeeze £6.5m out of the Italian club, now managed by Antonio Conte, who are offering just £4.5m.

Frank Lampard has made it very clear that the former Arsenal striker will only go when the deal is right for him and the club, and we imagine he will want to get a deal to bring in a replacement pretty far down the line before he green-lights Giroud’s exit.

The matter of a few million here and there won’t matter as much, except perhaps when it comes to Antonio Conte. He’s taking us for every penny he’s owed from his dismissal, and we can imagine if we have the chance to get a similar fee elsewhere we’ll take it. All this may just be us buying time and talking up a storm to try and squeeze a bigger sum out of another team.

Despite all that though, Inter seem the closest to completing a deal. They’re going to have to wait, maybe until the final days of the month, but they should get their man.

It just depends how spiteful we’re feeling.
