Brighton Boss neither confirms nor denies reported Chelsea interest in Lewis Dunk

Last week there was a report, as cited by The Daily Mail here, claiming that Chelsea had made an enquiry to Brighton over the possibility of signing their centre back Lewis Dunk this window.

The report stated that Brighton would be prepared to allow Dunk to make his dream move to Chelsea if he wanted it, but only if The Blues pay their £50 million valuation for the England international.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is allegedly looking to bring a centre back in of Dunk’s calibre, someone commanding and strong in the air, as well as having leadership abilities.

However, since the report, nothing has really transpired on the rumour and it has gone fairly quiet.

But Brighton Boss Graham Potter has had the chance to squash the rumour entirely, and whilst he did not confirm nor deny it, he has said that he remains relaxed about the situation, due to Dunk having recently signed a new contract at the club.

As reported by The Daily Express, Potter said:

“He signed a long term contract (July 2018). We are quite relaxed about the situation.

“I have really enjoyed working with Lewis as a footballer and as a person. He is really important for us and we are really happy that he is with us.

“January is always a little bit different to every other month if we are being honest. There is always a lot going on, a lot of talk from you guys (media) questions and interest.

“The window is open so there is more things going on in that regard but that is normal we know that is the case. When the window is open there is always more talk other than the football.”
