“He was the best player on the pitch” – Frank Lampard gives immense praise to wonderkid

There was one man Chelsea fans were really keen to see in tonight’s FA Cup tie against Hull City: Billy Gilmour.

The young Scot has really impressed in the youth teams, and when given a chance in the first team by Frank Lampard.

He came on with 25 minutes to go tonight, and Lampard took the chance after the game to give him high praise, as you can see in the quotes below carried by journalist Dan Levene:

Anyone watching would have to agree. Gilmour was smooth as silk on the ball as always, and added some real calmness to a team of players much older and more experienced than him.

He even indulged in a little showboating too, drawing in two Hull players before flicking the ball off them to win a throw in.

He got forward too, threatening the opposition box as we pushed to try and get a third to kill the game off.

With performances like this, and praise like this from his manager, it’s just a matter of time before he’s in the team.
