Antonio Conte tried to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Chelsea

Zlatan’s last real impact in football beyond some meme-able clips was at Manchester United, where Jose Mourinho was able to use him as an effective impact striker.

At the time, Chelsea apparently were doing their best under Antonio Conte to bring him in themselves.

Goal.com had the story which related that the Italian coach had done his best to get the Swedish target man on board when he was in charge at Stamford Bridge.

“He is a great champion. I tried to get him when I was at Chelsea. I have a lot of respect for him, he has lots of personality after having a tough upbringing – he is a great player,” the former Blues boss said.

He never was happy about the signings that the club made while he was in charge, and that eventually lead to him leaving. Perhaps listening to him a little more would have us competing at the top of the league right now?
