£40m defender still on Chelsea’s radar despite long silence

This really has been a very dull transfer window.

We were really expecting a massive impact from Chelsea, which perhaps was always going to lead to a letdown.

But honestly, not only have they not signed anyone exciting, they’ve not signed anyone at all. In fact, things are so dull that they’re starting to recycle the rumours from earlier in the window.

That’s how we’ve been lead all the way back to Nathan Ake again. The former Blue was linked extensively with us at the start of the window, and seeing as nothing’s happened, it looks like we’ve circled all the way back round.

The Daily Star today report that we’re willing to pay £40m for the Dutchman, that being the set buy-back clause in the deal we sent him to the Cherries on.

He’s a good player, and probably would get regular games for us. But it’s hardly the earth shattering transfer market impact we were hoping for.
