Video: Mateo Kovacic shows incredible strength and skill to hold off three Everton players

There’s not a lot of positives you can take out of today’s game. Everton were well worth the win but Chelsea never truly turned up.

One thing you could point to is the continued emergence of Mateo Kovacic. It did sound like the Croatian was only signed due to the loophole in the transfer ban, but he’s started to show what a good player he can be.

When he came through at Dinamo Zagreb he was thought of as a lightweight number 10, but he’s starting to show he can be an all-round midfielder. This piece of strength and skill against Everton was a joy to watch:

He also scored a nice goal so he’s probably the only Chelsea player who can feel they contributed something for the team today.
