Top pundit says Lampard made “strange decision” in second half of loss

Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by West Ham on Saturday, and the second half saw Frank Lampard switch things up to try and help his side find the goal to get back on level turns.

Matt Le Tissier was covering the game, and he was unsure about some of the switches the Chelsea boss decided on.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday summing up the game,  Le Tissier had some interesting things to say about what went down at the Bridge.

“[Giroud] ended up getting substituted, and the only big surprise was that when he did get substituted I was expecting Batshuayi to come on because they needed a goal and he’s a poacher.

“But instead, he brought Callum Hudson-Odoi on and put Pulisic up top, and that was the only strange decision for me.”

It certainly was an unexpected move, and several people have commented on the decision to take a forward off when we needed to score. Pulisic as a false 9 was an original idea, but he didn’t get the ball in front of goal at all.

We’re not sure that it’s an experiment he will be repeating anytime soon.
