It’s half time in Chelsea’s game against Bournemouth, and frankly, we want that 45 minutes of our lives back.
Frank Lampard’s increasingly stodgy Chelsea struggled to breakdown a deep Bournemouth team, and fans on social media were pretty frustrated by another bad performance.
Some, including top journo Matt Law, called it the “worst first half of 2019 at Stamford Bridge” – it’s certainly up there. Others pointed to the need for signings, imploring “roll on January 1st”, when we will be able to add some attacking threat to this team in the transfer market.
But before we worry about that, let’s focus on turning things round in this second half. We’ve got the talent, we just need a break or two.
You can see a selection of the comments here:
Chelsea created so many chances through pressing high up the pitch earlier in the season. As the results go bad, confidence drops, the pressing gets less intense, we create fewer chances, score fewer goals, lose more confidence. We need to break the cycle.

That was the worst first half of the season at the Bridge.. Everyone looks sloppy, tired and out of their mind. Rudiger/Tammy the only one trying.
Its getting hard for us all to remain awake ffs!

Another flat first half from Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge. Aston Villa aside, it’s been a regular occurrence for a while.

we can wake up any time now please

Tammy desperate for the ball. Bobbing and weaving. Calling and expecting. But nothing getting through.

We really do struggle breaking down teams don't we…

HT: Chelsea 0-0 Bournemouth
Fair scoreline in a flat first-half. Chelsea are comfortable at the back but lacking any spark going forward. Mount has had the best chance of the game but saved by Ramsdale. Not many other clear chances to speak of. #CFC #CHEBOU

Lampard visibly frustrated for much of that first half. Chelsea’s attacking intensity is coming in spurts rather than constant and they’re nervy at the other end. Bournemouth defending well #cfc
