It is being reported today that right back Reece James is close to getting himself a new long term Chelsea contract, according to The Daily Star.
James has come into the Chelsea squad this season and has been quick to nail down a regular starting spot ahead of captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
The England under-21 international has turned 20 today, and is continuing to impress as he makes the step up in to the Blues first team after a year on loan at Championship side Wigan Athletic.
Frank Lampard has shown his trust in some of Chelsea’s young players who have come up through the youth ranks from their ever impressive Academy, and James has certainly been one of the shining stars.
His current deal runs out in 2022, but the report claims he will be signing an extended and improved contract to commit his future even further to the club he has been at since the age of 7.
