Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by West Ham at home yesterday, and Jorginho was the worst player on the pitch according to WhoScored.
They gave the midfielder a 5.9 score. He was the only player in the game to not manage a 6 or above. He had just 66 touches, made no key passes and took no shots in a game in which Chelsea were really desperate for a goal by the end.
That’s not good enough, and marked the third in a run of games against big teams which have seen the Italy international fade into the background when faced with higher grade teams.
Against some of the lesser lights in October he was imperious, controlling games from the middle and winning the ball effectively. In these games he’s not been nearly as efficient.
That’s something the team will have to work on as the season goes on. We can’t expect to compete at the top level unless our midfielders can perform in the biggest games.
