“The most important this is for Chelsea to win” – Azpi not interested in JT serenades

Aston Villa come to Stamford Bridge tonight, and there’s a few narratives at play.

Chelsea are desperate to get back to winning ways after two defeats and a draw in their last 3. Aston Villa may look like an easy target, but they are anything but.

Unusually, it’s their assistant manager who is getting a lot of attention in the buildup – because it’s John Terry, captain leader and legend of Chelsea.

Cesar Azpilicueta isn’t getting distracted by any potential ovations for his former skipper. He’s focused on three points, just as he should be.

“I’m sure he will get a great reception on Wednesday but the most important thing is for Chelsea to win the game,” the current captain was quoted as saying by The Athletic.

There is apparently going to be a highlights video for JT on the big screen, plus a banner in the stands. There will be songs sung all evening.

But as Azpi says, and as JT would say if he was still in the team, that’s all rubbish. What matters is the three points.
