Chelsea Transfer Targets’ Season So Far: Wilfried Zaha

January is getting closer, and Chelsea are hoping to have their transfer ban lifted in time to secure some players to strengthen Frank Lampard’s squad. In this series we look at some of our reported targets and how their season so far is going.

Wilfried Zaha was one of two big names yesterday linked with a switch to Chelsea in the Daily Mail. This is just the latest rumour connecting the Ivorian winger with moves to big clubs, as it seems he’s outgrown Crystal Palace.

You wouldn’t know that from his form this season however. He has 2 goals and 1 assist this season in 13 starts, for a Crystal Palace team who are actually playing really well.

Roy Hodgson’s team have long been reliant on Zaha, but in a strange twist of fate this season are now performing well without their star man at his best. Perhaps it’s just a lack of focus following his attempts to get a move this summer, and he will recover his form when he gets the move he wants.

On the other hand, suitors may now feel that he’s not showing the elite talent he has done at times in the last few years, and at 27 one feels this should be his absolute peak.

This next month is a great chance for him to remind Chelsea just how good he is, before January arrives. If he can’t take it, he may end up facing another frustrating summer, with big clubs looking elsewhere for younger talents.
