Chelsea Transfer Targets: Blues could swoop for cheap Russian talent to strengthen Lampard’s squad straight away

We’ve been writing a series of profiles on the seasons so far of Chelsea’s potential January additions, from Wilfried Zaha to Jadon Sancho, Timo Werner and Fedor Chalov.

All these attacking reinforcements would likely strengthen an attacking lineup currently looking a little stale, with Michy Batshuayi, Pedro and Olivier Giroud all disappointing when called upon in recent weeks.

They could all three depart this summer, with Willian’s better form not guaranteeing he will stay either. Chelsea are almost certain to recruit an attacking wide player and a striker before next season starts, but which will they be?

Zaha is pushing for a move, and is probably the easiest deal to do as Crystal Palace are likely to end up accepting it’s time to cash in on their wantaway star.

Sancho and Werner are two of the top young talents in the world, and signing them is going to cost insane amounts of money. It’s perfectly possible we sign one of them, but we would likely need to build the deal over a few months, fending off competition in the process. If they come, it will be likely be a summer switch.

That leaves Chalov, who wouldn’t fetch such a monster fee, and is by some distance the least well known of the group. We think there’s a chance Chelsea look to tie up his deal on the cheap in January to strengthen the squad straight away if the ban is lifted. Then, they can begin work on the larger deals for Werner, Sancho or Ben Chilwell for the summer.

We won’t even know for a few more weeks if we can sign players in January. The idea we’re then going to be able to line up a massive deal for a world class star seems ambitious.
