Why Chelsea have ‘made contact’ over Wilfried Zaha transfer

Chelsea have made contact with Crystal Palace over a potential transfer of Wilfried Zaha, according to The Independent.

They claim that Zaha has been on the Chelsea radar for sometime.

Chelsea are expected to find out anytime now whether they will be able to sign new players in January or not, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport heard their transfer ban case last month.

Zaha is probably being looked at by Chelsea for his attacking versatility. He has the ability to play on either wing and can also play as a centre forward.

The Blues are likely to lose Michy Batshuayi, Olivier Giroud, Pedro, and potentially Willian by the summer, possibly sooner.

So Zaha coming in would offer cover for all of those positions even if he is not the idealistic choice from some supporters.

The 27-year old has been playing in a defensive system at Palace and is often isolated. It would be interesting to see what he could do in an attacking system alongside better players.

However, he is not my first choice for the winger or striker positions, but I can see some logic there.
