“There has to be a balance” – Lampard provides January transfer plans update

Frank Lampard has been facing the press this lunchtime ahead of a crucial Champions League night tomorrow.

The Blues face French side Lille in the final game of the group stages of the competition. However, it is basically a knockout match for Lampard and his Chelsea players.

They need a win to go through to the next round regardless. A draw will see them relying on other results, and a defeat will send them directly into the Europa League.

Lampard’s team will have the backing of Stamford Bridge on their side and now will be as good a time as any to turn their home stadium into the fortress that it once was again.

Much has been said about Chelsea’s transfer plans for January now their transfer ban has been overturned and they are now allowed to sign players again.

Lampard was asked about this via his press conference today.

As reported by Football London, Lampard said:

“You have to be careful not to be too reactionary.

“As a club there has to be a balance. We have a strong squad, but can we strengthen?

“You do learn as you go along with the players. It hasn’t changed my mindset.

On whether he has changed his mind with what he wants in January, he said:

“It’s always pretty fluid, I wouldn’t say I have changed my mind.

“There were individual contact moments we lost with Everton.”
