“My agent and the club are talking” – Willian hopes for good news on Chelsea contract soon

The Chelsea and Willian contract saga is one that has been dragging on since the start of the summer.

Well known Chelsea journalist Simon Johnson reported back in July in an article for The Standard that Willian had agreed a new contract extension with Chelsea until 2021.

Fast forward six months, Johnson is now working for a new publication in the shape of The Athletic, and Willian has still not signed a new Chelsea deal!

Whether the hold up is to do with money, or length, it has certainly been one long hold up.

But Willian himself has insisted that talks are ongoing and that he hopes to positively conclude them soon.

In an interview as delivered ironically from Simon Johnson’s Twitter account citing Yahoo, Willian said:

“My agent and the club are talking and I hope we can have some good news soon.

“It’s normal to have proposals and speculation, especially for players who are at the end of contract.

“But my focus is 100% on Chelsea and the season.”

In January Willian will be free to talk to other clubs and agree a pre-contract to join them in the summer when his Chelsea contract runs out.

So Chelsea have around 2-3 weeks to get him signed up, if that is what they intend to do.
