Chelsea beat Crystal Palace at home today, after Frank Lampard tweaked his favoured team to good effect.
One of those changes was enforced, with vice captain Jorginho suspended today. The next was just tactical however, as actual captain Cesar Azpilicueta was left out for Reece James.
That meant Brazilian winger Willian had the armband today, and he put in a real captain’s performance. Liam Twomey of the Athletic highlighted some of his better numbers in the Tweet you can see here:
Willian with 97% pass accuracy in the opposition half today (35 out of 40), including four key passes and a decisive assist. He also won possession six times (more than any other attacker).
Pretty good captain’s performance #cfc

The combination of creativity and work rate that those stats indicate are what the former Azhi man is all about, and he made the difference today when he drifted inside to assist Tammy Abraham’s opening goal.
Working hard and pressing from the front, he set an example for all his young teammates to follow.
