Revealed: Chelsea’s average weekly player salary compared with the rest of the league

Chelsea currently sit in third spot in the Premier League, only behind second placed Leicester City on goal difference, but 8 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Manchester City are just one point behind them in fourth place, 8 points ahead of the rest of the pack that is lead by Sheffield United.

A lot has been made on money in football and various claims that teams have bought success over the years. Of course, it’s bound to help you dominate football if you have more money to spend on players, and attractive wage budgets to offer them.

Salaries are ever increasing, and thanks to a report from Spotrac, as reported by The Daily Mirror, we can take a look at how wage budgets are currently correlating to the teams league positions.

Does the average amount that each clubs pays it’s players on a weekly wage, correlate to their league positions? Not entirely.

It’s no surprise that Manchester City spend the most at £115,000 weekly average wage, yet they currently sit in fourth place, 9 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

The latter are the second biggest average wage spenders with £100,000, which correlates.

Chelsea are third with £95,000, which also correlates.

Then it goes a little off. Arsenal and Manchester United are next on £92,000 and £90,000 and sit 6th and 7th in the league.

Tottenham are way down in 14th place in the league but are next in line as the highest average wage spenders on £72,500.

Sheffield United are the greatest achievers so far and going well against the grain on just £9,000 average weekly wage, the lowest paid by any club in the league, yet they’re in 5th spot.

Incredible stuff!
