Reece James’ stunning 45 minutes in stats as the right back surely earns starting spot

Reece James only arrived at half time in Chelsea’s thrilling draw with Ajax, but he didn’t half make an impact.

The right back was surging up the right from the moment Frank Lampard unleashed him in this game, and his numbers show just how impressive the 19 year old’s performance was as he scored the 4th to earn Chelsea a point and become the club’s youngest Champions League goalscorer.

Lampard will find it difficult to drop Cesar Azpilicueta regularly. He’s the club captain, and one of the few more experienced players in the squad. But he also can’t ignore James anymore. His form, every time he’s been on the pitch, has been brilliant.

Whether it’s Azpi at left back or a back three, Lampard has a serious challenge on his hands working out how to get his talented new project into the team.
