One impressive Kepa stat to balance the worries

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been playing behind a struggling defence this season, so nobody has been giving him too much blame. But as time has passed and we’ve continued conceding soft goals, some of the blame has naturally been distributed to him too.

The press today, including the Daily Mail are reporting that Frank Lampard wants to bring in Shay Given from Derby County to work with Arrizabalaga, to help him through this bad patch.

AS in Spain report on this “worry at Chelsea over the form of Kepa,” but end the piece with some rather encouraging stats.

They point out that, despite the 25 goals he’s conceded in 17 games, Chelsea have only lost 3 from open play – once against Valencia, once against Liverpool, once against Man U on the opening day.

So despite the gripes and the lack of satisfying clean sheets, the team are getting the job done. Tighten up a little at the back, hopefully thanks to the work of Shay Given, and we will be in a super strong position going forwards.
