One Chelsea player who would get big help from a senior callup

Usually, fans aren’t too keen about seeing their players get called up to national team duty. Unless it’s the World Cup or something, it’s just annoying injury risk for them.

But in some cases, extra minute would actually really be beneficial. Billy Gilmour is in a tricky spot at Chelsea right now. He’s so good Frank Lampard doesn’t want to loan him out. But he’s not playing more than a few sub minutes and the occasional cup start here and there.

That’s just not enough game time to stay fit, or to get experience playing at the senior level, which he lacks.

Getting called up for Scotland by Steve Clarke, who is surely thinking about it already, would give him a couple of extra games a month potentially, helping him adjust to the demands of being a regular for club and country.

We trust Clarkey to do the right thing for his job and for the player, but if he can find it in his heart to give him a chance, we know he won’t let the Tartan Army down. We’ve seen enough to know he’s class.
