Why Michy Batshuayi might be considering a bench role enough

We wrote yesterday about the rumours doing the rounds that Michy Batshuayi will not push for a move in January, and is instead content to stay at the club for the rest of the season.

If that’s true, it’s an admirable decision. It’s not clear whether Batshuayi really thinks he can beat out home-grown and on-fire Tammy Abraham over the next few months. It looks like a long shot, but he must back himself on some level. On the other hand, perhaps he’s accepted his role as a bench player and a backup to the main man.

Even if that’s the case, he knows he can have a huge effect on the season. He’s already scored one league winning goal for us, as well as other vital goals as a substitute. This season it was he, off the bench to lead the line in Amsterdam, who got our winning goal against Ajax, one of the most important moments of the season so far.

Perhaps it’s knowing that there will hopefully be more moments like those to come this season that have convinced him that stay could be as rewarding as going.
