Mason Mount starts for England in Euro 2020 qualifier

Gareth Southgate has picked Mason Mount to start versus Montenegro in England’s 1000th game.

The midfielder’s form has slowed a little since his last callup, and he’s had the occasional injury worry, but Ross Barkley’s injury means he gets Southgate’s approval to play in the midfield 3.

It’s a great chance for him to prove his worth ahead of Euro 2020. These next few games will be front and centre in Southgate’s thinking when it comes to picking his squad and final team for the tournament. Continuing his strong form for Chelsea will put Mount in a great position to take advantage of that come the summer, as will a good performance tonight.

He can bring the same goal throat to this team that he does to Chelsea, and can hopefully get the crowd at Wembley on their feet.

He’s proving to be a big favourite for Frank Lampard, and can hopefully gain similar status for England.
