Mason Mount names two ways Chelsea are doing well at the moment

The Daily Mail have some really interesting quotes from Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, speaking after the club’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Mount was an injury doubt for the Blues after being substituted against Ajax on Tuesday night, but in the end he played and was his usual diligent self knitting together midfield and attack, and leading the press up the middle.

His quotes reveal that he can identify the exact recipe behind this team’s recent strong form:

“That’s what you need, to keep playing well and staying focused, and then that momentum builds. Then you don’t really think about the game, or winning, you just stay focused,” the midfielder said.

“The goals are coming and we’re doing well at the back, stopping goals, so it’s going well,” he went on.

Those two areas – scoring goals and stopping goals – are fairly obviously the two key ingredients any team needs to focus on, but it really has made all the difference for Chelsea, who have been far better with the former than the latter this season.

At times we’ve looked really vulnerable, and it’s only been thanks to the improving form of Kurt Zouma and the introduction of Fikayo Tomori that we’ve stabilised a shaky back line.
